Chagrin/Lander Circle Re-Design: A Long Road - July 22, 2008

(as reported by Jerry Grdina)

On July 22, 2008 the City held a meeting regarding Lander Circle traffic flow and design.  The Mayor pointed out that this was NOT a public hearing (as had been incorrectly reported by the Sun newspapers) but was intended to collect input from businesses and residents in the immediate area (NOACA, who provided a grant to fund the study, refers to this as a “stakeholders” meeting).  Nonetheless, the Mayor indicated that all present would be allowed to speak.  A public hearing for residents will be scheduled in the future.

The Mayor also noted that no decision has been made regarding a change (one possibility is no change) but that the City had a responsibility to study the issue.  Issues include traffic back-up at peak hours, safety, and the future widening of Chagrin Boulevard from I-271 to Lander Circle.

Representatives from NOACA (Northeast Ohio Area Coordinating Agency), ODOT (Ohio Department of Transportation), Chagrin Valley Engineering, and TMS Engineers presented information.  Business owners and residents asked questions and presented comments.  The consultants are to take that input into account.

A preliminary study is intended to be completed by the end of the year.  Neither a timetable nor cost estimate has been established.
