CURFEWS
(Section
648.11) – Under
12 years: dusk to dawn ● Between 12 and 16 years: 11:00 p.m. to 6:00
a.m. ● Between 16
and 18 years: 12:00 midnight to 6:00 a.m. Exceptions if properly
accompanied.
DOGS
(Chapter 618) – Dogs are not permitted to run at large and at all
times must be either physically confined or restrained on the
owner’s premises or kept under reasonable control. Menacing
behavior by dogs is prohibited. Frequent and habitual dog barking
is prohibited.
FIREARMS
(Chapter 672) – No shooting, hunting or discharging of firearms is
permitted in the City, except on approved trap or skeet ranges
or pursuant to City approved program.
FIRES
(Chapter 660) –
No outside burning
is permitted.
HOME / YARD MAINTENANCE
(Building &
Housing Code Part 14)
–
All homes and yards must be properly maintained. Grass must not be
allowed to grow over six inches in height. All contractors
(including landscape, snowplow, and painting services) are required
to be
licensed by the City’s Building Department.
HORSES
(Section 1266.02(b)(1)) –
You must own at least two acres of land to keep a
horse
and comply with enclosure and set-back requirements.
“HOUSE SALES”, i.e. PUBLIC SALES OF HOUSEHOLD GOODS
(Chapter 864) –
Always call Police Clerk first. Sales under $300 total
require no permit; sales
over this amount require a $25 per day license, which may be
obtained from the Clerk of Council. Restrictions
apply to time,
signs and parking.
JOGGERS / WALKERS / BIKERS
(Sections 416.05 and 474.04(a)
– Strict rules control jogging, walking
and biking on city streets. Single
file is required. Bikers under the age of 18 are required to wear
helmets.
PARKING (RESTRICTED) (Chapter
452) – Unauthorized parking in designated handicapped zones or in
fire lanes will be subject to a fine of up to $500.
PARKING (STREET)
(Chapter 452) – Overnight
street parking is prohibited. Park on the right side of the
street and not within 10 feet of a fire hydrant. Parking lights or
flashers must be operated after dark. Avoid parking on streets when
there is snow. Street parking is
banned when snow depth exceeds two (2) inches. Contact the Police
Department
for special parking permission for parties.
PARKING (TRAILERS AND MOBILE HOMES)
(Chapters 1272 and 452) –
No recreational vehicles (RV's), mobile
homes, house
trailers, boat trailers or campers may be parked either on
driveways, or elsewhere, for more than a total of 7 days in any 90-day
period, except in a garage or suitable enclosure.
REMODELING / ADDITIONS
● SWIMMING POOLS, TENNIS COURTS
AND OUTDOOR LIGHTING (Building &
Housing Code Part 14) –
Check first with the Building
Department to find if a building permit is required. This
also applies to detached accessory buildings,
such
as prefabricated tool or garden sheds, and erection of fences.
Enforcement is strict.
SATELLITE DISHES
(Chapter 1484) –
A building permit is required for the installation of
a dish antenna.
SEPTIC TANKS
(Chapter 1044) –
Septic tanks must be cleaned a minimum of every three years and a
copy of the
inspection report filed at City Hall.
A list of licensed cleaners is
available at City Hall. An annual permit is required by Cuyahoga County through the Board of Health. The current
charge is $40.
SIGNS
(Chapter 1486) –
Permitted signs include: Security sign (maximum: 1 square foot);
“For Sale” sign of premises (maximum: 6 square feet);
non-commercial, or political sign
(maximum: 6 square feet). Only one sign of each type is
permitted.
Signs may not be closer than 20 feet from the pavement of the street
nor within 6 feet of any property line.
SOLICITING
(Chapter 860) – Door-to-door soliciting is not allowed without a
City permit. No permit is required for charitable, educational, or
religious solicitation.
